A relief effort gave rise to a movement
When a severe earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April 2015, the lives of millions of people were turned upside down in a matter of seconds. Houses collapsed, schools were destroyed and entire villages were left with nothing.
In Switzerland, too, many people watched the dramatic footage. What remained merely a news report for most people became a call to action for some volunteers. Shortly after the disaster, the first preparations for relief operations began. Supplies were collected, transport arrangements organised and contacts established in Nepal.
Earth C Air emerged from this spontaneous show of solidarity.
From the outset, the focus was not on short-term disaster relief. Rather, the aim was to establish sustainable support that would open up long-term prospects for the people. Projects were developed in collaboration with the local population to address specific needs and provide solutions.
Over the past ten years, this has led to the creation of school buildings, health projects and training programmes for emergency services personnel. At the same time, a network of dedicated professionals, volunteers and partners has grown in Nepal and Switzerland.
What began as a spontaneous relief effort gradually developed into an organisation that brings about lasting change. Throughout, the original idea has always remained the same: to provide help directly where it is needed.
Earth C Air shows that compassion can lead to concrete action. Not through grand words, but through working together.
